Speech Team Seniors Win 1st in Division, 10th Overall at NFA National Tournament

Tuesday, Apr 23, 2013

The speech team just completed the last tournament of the 2012-13 season last night! The team traveled to Marshall University in West Virginia to compete at the NFA National Tournament. The team did very well with only three students representing the program. Overall, the team qualified 48 events and 15 students, only the three seniors traveled. Given the length of the two national tournaments, we don't want our students missing too much class in April!

Even though a small contingent of students competed at NFA, they 2013 Speech Teamhad a great tournament. All three of them cleared, and with only 14 events, the team was 10th in Sweepstakes and 1st in the President's Division (representing schools with 17-27 entries). The following individual awards were won:

Harrison Postler - Senior
2nd Place in Impromptu Speaking
4th Place in After Dinner Speaking
Semifinalist in Dramatic Interpretation
Quarterfinalist in Prose Interpretation
9th Place in Individual Sweepstakes

Michael Taylor - Senior
Quarterfinalist in Prose Interpretation
Quarterfinalist in Dramatic Interpretation

Mandy Paris - Senior
Quarterfinalist in Prose Interpretation
Quarterfinalist in Duo Interpretation (with Harrison Postler)

These seniors, along with their speech teammates and debate teammates, won over 250 team and individual awards. We are very proud of the team, and grateful to the coaches, parents, alumni, and friends who help support the team!
