Speech and Debate Teams Compete in Wisconsin and Illinois Tournaments

Greetings everyone!

I hope that you all are having a wonderful February. The speech and debate teams were back in action this weekend. The speech team traveled to the Love Fest in Wisconsin to compete in a two-day tournament. Overall, the team won 4th in Sweepstakes for the weekend. The team was 2nd (Day 1) and 5th (Day 2) in daily sweepstakes. Several of the students won individual awards:

4th Place (Day 1) in After Dinner Speaking

4th Place in Dramatic Interpretation (Day 2)
5th Place in Prose Interpretation (Day 1)

Ryan Courtney
3rd Place in Duo Interpretation with Michael Taylor (Day 1)

Keegan Bosch
4th Place in Poetry Interpretation (Day 1)
5th Place in Dramatic Interpretation (Day 1)

Anthony Peavy
5th Place in Prose Interpretation (Day 2)

Maddison Jansen
5th Place in Duo Interpretation with Anthony Peavy (Day 1)
7th Place in Extemporaneous Speaking (Day 1) and Poetry interpretation (Day 2)

6th Place in Program Oral Interpretation (Day 2) and After Dinner Speaking (Day 2)

5th Place in Duo Interpretation with Heather Kelly (Day 1)

The debate team competed at the Owen L. Coon Invitational at Northwestern University over the weekend. They competed against 8 different 2-person teams, from schools such as Harvard University (MA), Boston College (MA), and Cal State Fullerton.

Both teams will use this weekend to prepare for more competition. The debate team will compete at the District IV NFL Qualifier tournament February 23-24th in Minneapolis, MN. The speech team will have its last MAFL in Wisconsin February 23-24th.

The speech showcase will be held on March 27, 2013 in Lang Auditorium at 7 p.m. This event will be a great opportunity to see students perform some of the events that they have qualified to nationals.
