Digital Media Grad Tarrell Christie's Sci-Fi Film Wins Awards

Digital Media graduate Tarrell Christie (2019) won a 2020 Upper Midwest Emmy® Foundation Student Production Award for his sci-fi film FLAVA at the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences – Upper Midwest Chapter on April 3, 2020. FLAVA won in the College - Long Form: Fiction category.

The film previously won Best Drama at the Alt Film Festival and was also selected for the Los Angeles CineFest.

FLAVA is set in the dystopic city nicknamed "The Bottoms," where regular law enforcement has been replaced by a private military organization and mass advertising is a way of life. Raekwon, the actor behind a popular energy drink mascot named Lil Pooky, is challenged for the messages his character sends to the public. In an attempt to put a positive message behind his character, Raekwon finds that Lil Pooky may be tied into a horrifying conspiracy.
