We provide hands-on training from award-winning faculty for a range of media careers in television news and magazine shows, fiction, documentary, and web/interactive formats. In our courses, you will learn how to develop scripts and screenplays, operate field and television studio cameras, design creative lighting, record audio for field and music events, and create compelling videos through editing and motion graphics.
Our talented faculty have won awards at regional and international competitions and bring to the classroom a wealth of industry experience. You will learn to be both critical consumers and innovative creators of media in a world of rapid technological transformations.
Sports Production: In recent years, our students have had the unique opportunity to work on sports coverage of UNI games for ESPN 3 with Around the Corner Productions in Cedar Falls, IA.
Job Placement: Our program has successfully placed students in a variety of media jobs, including television news production, video editing, advertising, feature film production, and social media marketing. Our graduates include leaders and practitioners in media, including radio hosts, CEOs, television reporters, talent agency executives, video producers and editors, filmmakers, writers, and media business owners.
Award Winners: Our graduates have won significant awards at the national Broadcast Education Association Media Arts Festival, the Iowa Broadcast News Association, the Midwest Regional Emmy, the Iowa Motion Picture Awards, and have screened their work competitively in numerous film festivals nationally. Internships/Job Placement: An essential aspect of your curriculum is an internship in a significant media production organization. Many of our students have had successful experiences converting internships into jobs. Our students have interned at KWWL-TV, Mudd Advertising, Hellman Advertising, OnMedia, KCRG-TV, the Mayo Clinic, the Nature Conservancy, among others.
Facilities: You will receive training in our HD television new studio, HD cameras, video editing stations featuring Adobe Premier and the professional AVID editing software, field lighting, and audio recording and editing.
Creative Co-curricular Activities: You will have numerous opportunities to work with student organizations on campus to enhance your educational and professional training.
KULT 94.5 Radio is a student-managed radio station featuring an eclectic mix of music, sports, and radio talk shows.
Cedar River Productions is a student-managed production company that produces projects for students and clients on and off-campus. Projects include fiction, documentary, psas, and event coverage.
