The Digital Media Major charts an exciting career path in the dynamic field of digital media. With concentrations in Digital JournalismDigital Media Leadership, and Digital Media Production, the major is a hub of creativity, collaboration and innovation. Our students, faculty, and alumni have won numerous awards at international, national, and regional competitions, conferences, and festivals.

A UNI Digital Media degree will equip you with the skills and experiences to pursue careers in news, media production and post-production, entertainment, advertising, and media management. You will build strong skills in storytelling and media management across multiple platforms, such as video, mobile devices, photography, print, radio, television, web, and social media. 

You will be immersed in hands-on experiences in a range of technology. Our high-definition television studio features state-of-the-art HD studio cameras, control room, and newsroom and graphics software. Our students work with video production equipment (cameras, lighting, and sound recording) and learn in writing labs. Our video editing suites feature the Adobe Creative Suite and Avid editing systems.

Your academic experiences will be enhanced with experiential learning and internship opportunities at significant regional, national, and global media organizations. In addition, youeducation will be enriched through a number of opportunities such as the Fast Forward workshops taught by industry professionals, field trips to the National Association of Broadcasters convention, activities with the Society of Professional Journalists and Produce Iowa, and master classes with visiting filmmakers. Through this, you will  develop important skills, enhance your portfolio, and build your professional networks in the industry.

You will also expand and strengthen your leadership and media skills through student organizations and co-curricular activities such as KULT Radio (94.5 FM)Cedar River Productions, the Northern Iowan newspaper, and The Valley on ESPN, a media team that covers UNI’s NCAA sports events for ESPN.
